Privacy Policy

This privacy policy applies to the CLIP app for mobile devices (the "Application"), created and operated by Youssef Elseifi (the "Service Provider") as a commercial service.

Information We Collect

Account information. The only way to sign in to CLIP is Sign in with Apple. When you sign in, Apple shares your name and your email address — which may be Apple's private relay address if you choose to hide your email. You also choose a display name and a username. CLIP does not collect your phone number.

Commitments and content. We collect the content you create in the Application: the text of your commitments, proof captions, journal entries, and messages you send within the Application.

Proof photos. When you submit photo proof for a commitment, we collect the photo you take or select. Embedded photo file metadata (such as camera EXIF data, including any location embedded in the file) is removed before upload.

Approximate location (optional). If you grant location permission, an approximate location (reduced to roughly 100 meters by design — never precise GPS) and a place name are attached to your proof photos so your judge can verify context. Location is shown in the Application to you and your judge. Declining location permission does not prevent you from submitting proof, and you can revoke the permission at any time in iOS Settings.

Payment information. Card details are entered directly into Stripe's payment interface and go directly to Stripe. Your card number never touches the Service Provider's servers; we keep only Stripe's tokenized identifiers.

Judge payment email. If you act as a judge and choose to receive judge payments, we collect the PayPal email address you provide so that CLIP can send its payment to you.

Device and usage data. We collect your device's IP address, device and operating-system information, and a push notification token (Apple Push Notification service). Through PostHog product analytics we collect screens viewed, taps and interactions, in-app events, session replay (recordings of how the Application's screens are used), crash reports, and performance data. This data is linked to your user account.

How We Use Information

• To operate the service: commitments, proof submission, judge review, and notifications
• To process the payment authorization and any resulting charge described in our Terms
• To understand how the Application is used and improve it (analytics)
• To diagnose and fix crashes and performance problems
• To prevent fraud and abuse and to comply with legal obligations

Analytics

CLIP uses PostHog for first-party product analytics, including session replay. This data is used only to understand and improve CLIP. We do not use advertising SDKs, we do not read the advertising identifier (IDFA), we do not sell personal data, and we do not share data with data brokers. CLIP does not track you across other companies' apps or websites.

Third-Party Services

The Application uses the following third-party services:

• Apple — Sign in with Apple (authentication) and Apple Push Notification service
• Supabase — database, authentication infrastructure, and file storage
• Stripe — payment processing
• PayPal — used by CLIP to make judge payments
• PostHog — product analytics and session replay
• Anthropic (Claude AI) — processes text you type when you use AI-assisted commitment descriptions

The Service Provider may disclose your information as required by law, to protect rights or safety, or to comply with legal process.

Payments

Nothing is charged when you create a commitment. You authorize a future charge to your saved payment method; that charge occurs only if your commitment ends missed, and it is payment to CLIP for the accountability service CLIP provides. CLIP does not hold balances or store funds for users. Judge payments are made by CLIP, from its own funds, via PayPal. The full payment structure is described in the Terms & Conditions.

Data Retention and Account Deletion

The Service Provider retains your data for as long as your account exists. You can delete your account at any time from within the Application (Profile → Delete account). Deleting your account removes your profile, commitments, proof photos, and other personal data from our active systems; records the Service Provider is legally required to keep (such as payment and accounting records) are retained for as long as the law requires. You may also request deletion by contacting youssefelseifi@gmail.com.

Opt-Out Rights

You can stop all collection of information by deleting your account and uninstalling the Application. You can revoke location and notification permissions at any time in iOS Settings without deleting your account.

Children

The Application is not intended for use by persons under the age of 18. The Service Provider does not knowingly collect information from minors. If you believe a minor has provided information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.

Security

All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS), and access to production systems is restricted. Proof photos are kept in CLIP's cloud storage and are displayed in the Application to you and your judge. No method of electronic storage is completely secure, but the Service Provider maintains physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards appropriate to the data collected.

Changes

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. The Service Provider will notify you of changes by updating this page. Continued use of the Application constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

Your Consent

By using the Application, you consent to the processing of your information as set forth in this Privacy Policy.
