Terms & Conditions
These terms and conditions (the "Terms") apply to the CLIP app for mobile devices (the "Application"), created and operated by Youssef Elseifi (the "Service Provider") as a commercial service. By downloading or using the Application, you agree to these Terms. You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to form a binding contract to use CLIP. You confirm your age when you create your account, and where the platform you installed CLIP from provides an age signal for your account, the Service Provider may check it. The Service Provider may refuse, suspend, or terminate an account it believes belongs to a person under 18.
The Service
CLIP is a personal accountability service built on commitment contracts. You create a commitment — a specific goal with a time limit — choose a consequence amount, and name a judge: a specific person you know who witnesses your progress. The Application may refer to the consequence amount as your "stake." Your commitment resolves automatically at its deadline, according to what you did — see How Commitments Resolve below. The Service Provider supplies the accountability service: commitment tracking, proof submission, a shared record your judge can see, reminders, and notifications.
Fees and Payment Authorization
Nothing is charged when you create a commitment. When you create a commitment, you save a payment method through Stripe and authorize the Service Provider to charge it the consequence amount in the future — only if the commitment ends missed.
If you keep your commitment, the authorization is never used. You pay nothing.
If your commitment ends missed, the Service Provider charges your saved payment method the consequence amount. That charge is the Service Provider's fee for the accountability service it has provided to you, and once made it is the Service Provider's own revenue.
The judge payment is a separate transaction. Separately and independently, the Service Provider makes a payment of its own to your named judge, via PayPal, as a cost of providing its service. The judge is paid by the Service Provider from the Service Provider's own funds — not by you. Your charge (if any) and the judge payment (if any) are two independent transactions: yours is a payment to the Service Provider; the judge's is a payment from the Service Provider.
CLIP does not hold balances or store funds for users. CLIP is not a bank. Payment processing is provided by Stripe, and your card details never touch the Service Provider's servers.
You agree to keep a valid payment method saved while you have an active commitment, and you authorize the charge described above to be made without further confirmation at the time it occurs. If a charge cannot be completed — for example, a declined card or a card-authentication requirement — the Service Provider may retry the charge, ask you to confirm it in the Application, and may suspend your ability to create new commitments until the matter is resolved.
How Commitments Resolve
Commitments resolve on their own, at the deadline you set, according to what you did. No person reviews or approves the outcome.
- Photo-proof commitments. At the deadline, the Service Provider counts the distinct days on which you submitted proof. If that count reaches the number of days you committed to, the commitment is kept and you are not charged. If it falls short, the commitment is missed. A photo-proof commitment does not resolve before its deadline.
- Honor commitments. You report the outcome yourself. If you say nothing, the commitment is treated as kept after a short grace period following the end date. Only your own explicit report that you missed it can lead to a charge.
- Ending a commitment early. You may voluntarily end a commitment as missed before its deadline. This is the only way a commitment ends early, and only you can do it.
No Element of Chance
CLIP involves no element of chance. Whether you are charged is determined entirely by your own actions — the proof you submitted before your deadline, or the honor report you made yourself. Nothing is random, and no other person decides the outcome. There is no prize: no one receives money through CLIP for keeping a commitment; keeping your commitment simply means you are never charged. Consequence amounts are never pooled, matched, multiplied, or combined with those of other users. The only person other than the Service Provider who receives a payment in connection with your commitment is the specific judge you personally chose. The Service Provider does not gain from missed commitments: when it charges its fee, it also incurs the cost of paying your judge.
Judges
You name your judge when you create a commitment. Your judge must be a real person you know. Your judge is a witness, not a decision-maker. Your judge sees your proof as it arrives and can message you about it, but your judge does not approve proof, reject proof, or issue a verdict — and nothing your judge does, or fails to do, changes whether your commitment is kept or missed. The Service Provider does not arbitrate between you and your judge and is not liable for disputes between you, except as described under Charges, Errors, and Disputes below.
To receive a judge payment, a judge must provide a valid PayPal email address. Judge payments are made by the Service Provider on its own schedule and are subject to PayPal's terms of service. Judges are responsible for any taxes on payments they receive. Where the Service Provider reasonably believes a commitment or its resolution is fraudulent or collusive, it may decline to make a judge payment.
Proof Submission and Honest Use
Submitting false proof, manipulated photos, or dishonest honor check-ins violates these Terms and may result in account suspension or termination. Approximate location attached to proof photos is shown in the Application to you and your judge.
Community Standards and Objectionable Content
CLIP lets you send photos and messages to one other person — the judge you named, or the person who named you. There is no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users on CLIP.
You may not submit, send, or upload:
- sexually explicit or pornographic content;
- content depicting violence, or any threat of violence or harm directed at any person;
- harassing, abusive, hateful, or bullying content;
- another person's private or identifying information;
- content impersonating another person;
- spam, fraudulent, or deceptive content;
- content that infringes another person's intellectual property or other rights;
- content that is otherwise unlawful.
The Service Provider removes content it determines to be objectionable and terminates the accounts of users who submit it, and may do so without notice. Content removed this way is deleted from the Application and from the Service Provider's storage.
Reporting and Blocking
Every proof photo and every message in CLIP can be reported from inside the Application. Reports go to the Service Provider, are reviewed, and are acted on within 24 hours. Reporting content does not change how a commitment resolves — resolution is automatic and works as described under How Commitments Resolve above.
You can also block the other person in a commitment from inside the Application. Blocking hides their messages and proof from you, stops messages passing between you in either direction, and prevents either of you naming the other in a future commitment. Blocking does not cancel a commitment and does not change any money owed: the commitment still resolves at its deadline, any charge that follows still applies, and any judge payment that follows is still made.
You can reach the Service Provider about any of this at youssefelseifi@gmail.com, or from the Support row inside the Application.
Charges, Errors, and Disputes
If you believe a charge was made in error, contact the Service Provider at youssefelseifi@gmail.com within 14 days of the charge. Where a technical error or a clear verification mistake caused an incorrect charge, the Service Provider will correct it and refund the charge through Stripe. Otherwise, charges that follow from a commitment that ended without the required proof, or from your own report that you missed it, are final. Please contact the Service Provider before initiating a card dispute; initiating a chargeback on a validly authorized charge may result in account suspension while the matter is resolved.
AI Features
The Application offers optional AI assistance for writing commitment descriptions. Text you type when using these features is processed by Anthropic's Claude AI. Do not include sensitive personal information in text submitted to AI features.
Intellectual Property
Unauthorized copying, modification, or distribution of the Application or any part of it is strictly prohibited. All trademarks, copyrights, database rights, and other intellectual property rights related to the Application remain the property of the Service Provider.
Security and Device Responsibility
You are responsible for maintaining the security of your device and your account. The Service Provider strongly advises against jailbreaking or rooting your device, which may compromise security and cause the Application to malfunction.
Internet Connectivity
Some features require an active internet connection. The Service Provider is not responsible for Application limitations due to lack of Wi-Fi access or exhausted data allowances. Standard data rates from your mobile provider may apply.
Limitation of Liability
The Service Provider accepts no liability for any loss, direct or indirect, arising from your use of the Application. Commitment outcomes are determined automatically at the deadline by the proof you submitted, or by your own honor report, as described under How Commitments Resolve; the Service Provider does not override that outcome except as described under Charges, Errors, and Disputes.
Account Deletion and Termination
You may stop using CLIP at any time and delete your account from within the Application (Profile → Delete account). Any charge that became due before deletion remains payable. The Service Provider may update the Application at any time and may suspend or terminate your access for violations of these Terms; upon termination, your rights to use the Application end immediately.
Changes to These Terms
The Service Provider may periodically update these Terms. Changes are effective when posted to this page. Continued use of the Application constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
